BACORR -- the Bay Area Coalition for Our Reproductive Rights -- came together in the 1988 as a clinic defense organization, to prevent Operation Rescue from blockading abortion clinics. BACORR successfully organized abortion rights activists to assure women's safe access to clinics.
BACORR is a multi-issue organization that engages in direct action and community organizing. BACORR works in coalition with other activists in the struggle for freedom and equality for women, lesbians and gays, people of color and poor and working people. BACORR also organizes educational events, public forums, and pro-reproductive justice demonstrations.
When the anti-abortion "Walk for Life West Coast" came to San Francisco on the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade in 2005, BACORR was revitalized and formed a coalition that created a vibrant and celebratory counterpresence to the anti-abortion demonstrators. BACORR has been key in forming the coalitions for the protests to the Walk for Life in 2006 and 2007, and BACORR and her allies will be out on the streets again on January 19, 2008.
As the onslaught of the right-wing continues on women's rights and lives, BACORR continues to organize in our communities.
